A junction box, also known as an electrical box is an enclosed housing space to accommodate electrical connections. But there is a limit on how many wires in a junction box are acceptable. It depends on two key factors. The Pollak 10-Terminal Junction Box # PK52248 has mounting holes that are spaced 8-1/16" on center across the box and 3-1/4" on center vertically. The holes are 1/4" in diameter for your mounting hardware. You haven't said how you will manage the transition from 10 gauge to 12 gauge. If you are thinking of wire nuts in a junction box, then the answer is that you cannot do this safely. The 20A breaker's job is to protect the load wire connected to it.

Legally, ethically, and according to electrical code, #10 wire is more than adequate for a 20 amp circuit. However, it will be substantially harder to work 10/3 into place and secure. Even a single #10 wire is at least 50% stiffer and harder to bend than a #12. A bundle of 4 of them will be a major pain-in-the-you-know-what.

Connect any combination of solid, stranded, and flexible copper wires faster and more reliably. Terminates 20-10 AWG solid and stranded. 2 conductor. Visually inspect for proper strip length and complete wire insertion through its transparent housing. Full content visible, double tap to read brief content. Looking for specific info? One of the mistakes often made is over loading an wire electrical box with too many wires. This will cause switches and outlets to not fit correctly and could even cause wires to become damaged. This information will help you plan your electrical box size properly. A junction box that is 4-by-4 inches with a 1-1/2-inch depth can hold up to 10 14-gauge or 9 12-gauge wires. What are the wires in a junction box? Junction boxes contain hot (black), neutral (white), and grounding (green or copper) wires. A junction box provides a code-approved place to house wire connections, whether for outlets, switches, or splices. Here's how to install one. by Chuck Bickford Updated 09/03/2024
I am running 10 AWG THHN through conduit to multiple junction boxes. I terminated the connections at the junction boxes using romex and I'm running the romex behind the wall to the outlets that are above the junction boxes.
