I started my first CNC and fabrication shop in 1997 at 25. Made lots of parts. Gross revenue was great. Net was slimmer. I ended up offsetting by developing a product that used fabrication and machining in construction. Sold a bunch. Approved 13 dealers across the US. Sold a bunch more. Then sold the business.There are many forms of metal working. Welding is one. Autobody, machine or fabrication shops are the way to go if you're looking for more then just welding. Welding is extremely important for metal working though, along with the metallurgy and fabrication techniques.Keep in mind though, a welder is only one of the tools needed for metal work. At bare minimum you’ll need an angle grinder. But for any real work you’ll probably want a metal bandsaw of some sort. The HF portaband with a SWAG Offroad table conversion is a pretty powerful little setup. And I’d highly suggest a belt grinder.
